Mixtape 5

Recently, I’ve found myself a little blue and I’m pretty sure it can largely be attributed to all the white. I realize the weather has been a common topic of conversation around here recently, but it’s easy to forget just how much it truly has an effect on one’s self, physically, socially, and emotionally. I know, I live in Ohio, this is nothing new. But if we have another winter much like this one, I’m not sure just how many “Cleve-Land That I Love” posts will be coming your way anymore.
So there I was yesterday, stuck inside, again, without even the option to go outside in “spring.” I decided to channel my fervor into productivity, so I grabbed a caffeinated beverage, slipped on my headphones and rediscovered Huey Lewis & The News. Not my typical working soundtrack, but it certainly got the job done. I was instantly in much more positive mindset. I have always appreciated music from just about every decade (90’s playlist found here), but man, was anybody ever sad in the 80’s? Keyboards, synthesizers, and other advancing music technologies made for unique and experimental sounds in just about every mainstream single (I mean unsheathed swords, bold move Robert Palmer). Obviously there are far too many incredible 80’s hits to narrow down to 15, so I decided to stick to the pop genre. Hope these get your toes tapping, heads bobbing, and moon walking right into your work load today.
1. Everywhere // Fleetwood Mac
2. Stuck With You // Huey Lewis & The News
3. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic // The Police
4. Don’t Get Me Wrong // Pretenders
5. This Must Be The Place // Talking Heads
6. Kyrie // Mr. Mister
7. She Drives Me Crazy // Fine Young Cannibals
8. Invisible Touch // Genesis
9. Safety Dance // Men Without Hats
10. Centerfold // J. Geils Band
11. The King of Wishful Thinking // Go West
12. Simply Irresistible // Robert Palmer
13. Your Love // The Outfield
14. You Spin Me Round // Dead Or Alive
15. You Make My Dreams // Hall & Oates

I love this mix, Kate! I’m so sorry the weather is taking it’s toll – I completely agree with what you said re: it being so draining on one’s mentality (and so forth); typically our weather here is mild – it seems in comparison to the whole globe – but it still sucks to sit through days and days of dull, grey skies; as soon as the sunshine pops up to say hello you can instantly see the positive effect it has on everyone – smiles appear on faces and steps become lighter.

I say come on spring, it looks like we all bloody need you!!

So sorry you are feeling down. It’s incredible how much the weather can truly affect you. I can’t even imagine since we are spoiled here in L.A. I don’t know if it’s the synthesizers or the bad hair, but 80’s music always does trick. I would totally work out to this play list. My fave is Your Love. Sending you warm hugs and hope spring comes soon for you! By the way, your blog is gorgeous.

It’s so true that a spot of bad weather can really weigh on your spirits. That said, I think you’ve hit on the perfect antidote with an 80s playlist! Genesis were (/are?) just the absolute dons of music!
Hope you’re starting to feel a bit better!

Couldn’t agree more Nathaniel, sometimes all you need is a little Phil Collins. Thank you for the warm wishes!
